There’s a reason no one likes estate agents, they charge you a fortune to sell your house, they present you with a list of certificates and tests you house needs to pass before they can put it on the market and they waste no time pointing out all the little things you’ll need to fix or improve if you want your house to sell. And it’s not exactly a speed process it can take months or even years to sell a house and in the meantime you’ve got to put up with a constant stream of strangers traipsing through your home picking at all those little bits the estate agent just pointed out. Whilst you’re hemorrhaging money and loosing patience there are a couple of things you could be getting on with.
If you want to inject some new life into a room a lick of paint can work wonders. All you need to do is make sure you really look and you’re sure to find plenty of simple cheap things to improve your house, lets start with the bathroom. Little things like putting in new bathroom taps if they’re starting to look dingy can be relatively cheap. Shower curtains can be enough to put someone off the whole room if it’s looking dank and mouldy, they’re cheap and easy to replace so you’ve got no excuse here. Something else you could add which won’t cost much money but will brighten the room are backlit mirrors. Again these aren’t too expensive but they not only make the room look lighter they also add an air of sophistication and appeal.
These same rules can be transferred over to most rooms in the house. Perspective buyers are going to be looking at how much light each room gets so make sure the window is framed by clean nice curtains. If you don’t have the time or the space to decorate the whole room try just painting the one wall to brighten the room up. Lampshades are another common overlooked feature when trying to sell a house, make sure they’re not dusty and try and keep them both plain and neutral or make sure they compliment the decor of the room.
