Organising a child’s party can sometimes strike dread into the hearts of parents, knowing that they have to keep a whole gaggle of children engrossed for a few hours without too much shouting, screaming, tantrums and crying!
In order to keep the party as fun as possible for both the grown-ups and the kids the best thing is to come up with plenty of ideas to keep the kids occupied for the whole time. If you can, then think up many more games for the amount of time you have, so that if they get fed up with a game or don’t want to do it, you have something in reserve.
There are a whole load of traditional games that you can set up to keep the kids busy and also there are new games that either use new technology or reflect on current things that kids are doing. Whatever games you decide to set up, try and keep them as fun activities that the children might otherwise not do at home so that they experience something different.
A few ideas for some kid’s party games are as follows:
The Mummy Game
In this game you split the kids into a team of about 5 in each – obviously it will depend on how many kids there are at the party. Each group is given a toilet roll and one of the kids is nominated as the ‘Mummy’. That child has to stand still with their arms by their sides and the other children have to wrap the toilet roll around them so that they end up being completely covered and looking like a Mummy. The team that does this first is the winner (as long as their Mummy looks pretty good!). This can be a good exercise in team building even though the kids will not realise it and they usually find it great fun.
The Name Game
In this game you need some post it notes and an adult to write out names of famous people that the children will have heard of. Write a name on each sticky note and attach that note to each of the kid’s foreheads. Then you need to get the children to ask a question of the rest of the party about the famous person they have on their sticky. One way to do this is to make a dice but instead of having numbers on it, put the children’s names on each side so that when you roll the dice that decides who can ask the question (you may need 2 dice for this and keep swapping between them). Continue until all of the kids have guessed who they ‘are’ – answers can only be yes or no.
